Forum on Agro-Meteorology held in Orange Walk
The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Belize National Meteorological service today opened its first Belizean Farmers Forum in Orange Walk district. This two-day forum is being held under the auspices of the Caribbean Agro-Meteorological Initiative regional project. The objective of the forum was to assist the farming community by increasing and sustaining the agricultural productivity at the farm level in the region through improved application of weather and climate information using an integrated and coordinated approach. Present at today’s forum were Chief Executive Officer from the Ministry of Agriculture,
Gabino Canto, Frank Tench Jr. from the Belize Meteorological Service, representatives from the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology, Farmers and other invited guests. The forum covered different ways on how it can promote better understanding of the application of weather and climate information and also obtain feedbacks to provide better products from the meteorological services to the farming community. The forum ends on Wednesday.
